WHY MICROCHIP?
A microchip is a capsule about the size of a grain of rice that contains a computer chip with a unique alphanumeric identification code. Microchips are sterile, biologically inert, and designed not to cause adverse reactions in pets. Every microchip is clinically tested by Harten before being released for implantation.
The lifespan of the microchip greatly exceeds the lifespan of most pets. If a lost pet is found by a veterinary clinic, animal shelter, rescue organization, or SPCA, the pet will routinely be scanned for a microchip. If a registered microchip is detected, Harten will use its registration database to help contact the pet owner as quickly as possible.
DNA sample storage allows a complete DNA profile of your pet to be produced in the future, if ever required.
REGISTER YOUR MICROCHIP
Email [email protected] with the last six digits of the barcode number included with your package. Please include your ownership information to ensure we can quickly contact you if your pet is ever lost.
REGISTER YOUR PET'S DNA SAMPLE
Mail the properly sealed capped syringe together with one barcode label from the package to Harten for secure DNA storage.
EXCLUSIVE MICROCHIP PROGRAM FOR CANINE BREEDERS
Harten offers professional microchip solutions for breeders who wish to implant microchips themselves or have implantation performed by their veterinarian.
HOW TO MICROCHIP
Please read these instructions carefully before proceeding or consult your veterinarian.
Dogs & Cats
The sterile disposable syringe contains a tiny rice-sized microchip that is sterile and biocompatible. The ultrafine needle is inserted beneath the skin between the shoulder blades. The level of discomfort is generally no greater than trimming a toenail.
Once implanted, the microchip naturally bonds with the connective tissue beneath the skin, helping it remain securely in place.
Depending on your pet's temperament, another person may be needed to safely restrain the animal during the brief implantation procedure.
Open the sterile package and retain all barcode labels, as they will be required for microchip registration and optional DNA storage.
Remove the protective cap from the needle, position the bevel facing upward, and insert the microchip beneath the skin according to the supplied instructions.
If you choose permanent DNA storage, recap the syringe after implantation. The needle tip contains sufficient cellular material to produce a complete DNA profile if ever required. Harten will securely store this DNA sample for the expected lifetime of your pet.
Birds
Bird microchips are implanted into the breast muscle. Birds should weigh at least 100 grams before implantation. Very small birds, including budgies and similar species, are generally not suitable candidates.
The bird should be carefully restrained during the procedure. Many veterinarians prefer to administer light anesthesia to minimize stress.
Insert the needle with the bevel facing upward at approximately a 45-degree angle into the breast muscle following the recommended implantation procedure.
Pet Microchip Overview
Slightly larger than the head of a pin, a Harten microchip is a radio-frequency identification (RFID) transponder enclosed within a durable bioglass capsule specifically designed for long-term implantation in animals.
Each microchip includes anti-migration technology that helps keep the chip securely positioned beneath the skin.
The microchip stores only one piece of information—a unique identification number—which links securely to the owner's registration record within the Harten database.
Unlike GPS tracking devices, microchips contain no battery and cannot track your pet's location.
When scanned with a compatible RFID scanner, the microchip transmits its unique identification number, allowing registered veterinary clinics, shelters, rescue organizations, and animal hospitals to identify the pet and contact Harten.
If a pet is reported missing, Harten can notify participating veterinarians, shelters, and rescue organizations in the surrounding area using the registered owner and microchip information.
Microchips are passive devices and remain inactive until activated by a scanner.
The microchips supplied by Harten comply with ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standards using the internationally recognized 15-digit numeric identification format, ensuring compatibility with universal scanners used worldwide.
Most veterinary hospitals, shelters, animal control agencies, and rescue organizations throughout North America utilize universal scanners capable of reading ISO-compliant microchips.
